Artist's Statement

In nature you can find order embedded within disorder and vice versa and I find this a very interesting concept.

I am intrigued by the random complexity of nature and also the order and formation which is present in many living things ranging from the microscopic to the immense man made environment. This has been the basis of the research for my work

My work is made with the use of various materials but I prefer to work with paint on canvas. Using a mixture of acrylic paints and glazes I create many layers until I reach the desired effect. I am also attracted to the qualities of worn materials such as lead, wood and slate, particularly the marks that have been left by the passing of time.

In these paintings I have not tried to re create an image of the landscape but rather to express my interpretation of the surrounding environment. I am seeking to convey a visual sense of balance whilst demonstrating a connection between order and chaos.
